A Samoyed is double coated and are not easy to groom. You have to brush from the skin to the top by lifting up the outer layer of hair. Expect to have wads of hair that you have to work through. I've stayed away from dogs with thick coats because of that problem plus they can easily over heat in the summertime. That breed of dog originated in Siberia which is about the coldest place on earth. Talk to a good groomer and see if you can get some ideas about grooming including either thinning or shortening the dogs hair. What is an easy way to brush a samoyed?

ReplyDeleteI do take my Samoyed to the groomers. But then again I live in Canada, so my dog is as lively as can be. Although when we went to California to see my parents, I have to take the poor boy with me and he was panting so much and it's Spring! I wonder how these dogs thrive when it's summer in some state. I think most people love this breed is because they are clever and makes a great companion. For more information, see this resource site: http://dogsaholic.com/breeds/profiles/samoyed.html
